Terms of Service

Plain-English terms for using Saul. Last updated September 2026.

1. Who we are and what this covers

Saul is a study workspace for law students, operated by the Saul team within Notorio LLC ("we", "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a contract between you and us and apply whenever you use the Saul website, app, or related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, or by using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Saul.

You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter into a binding contract to create an account. If you use Saul on behalf of an organization, you confirm you're authorized to accept these Terms for it.

2. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us right away through the FAQ page if you think someone else has access.

One account per person. Don't share logins — plan limits are per account, and sharing credentials to get around limits may lead to suspension.

The information you give us (name, email, school) must be accurate and kept up to date.

3. Your content stays yours

You keep whatever rights you already have in the content you upload or create in Saul, including materials, notes, outlines, chats, tasks, concept maps and other content ("Your Content"). We do not claim ownership of Your Content.

You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, process, reproduce, transmit and display Your Content only as needed to provide the Service to you, including to render your content back to you, process it through our AI providers to provide features you request, and make content available to people you choose to share it with.

You are responsible for the content you upload and share through Saul. You confirm that your use of that content through the Service does not violate applicable law or the rights of others. Don't upload pirated materials, confidential information you are not permitted to disclose, or other content you do not have the right to use through the Service.

We do not acquire ownership of Your Content. This license ends when you delete the applicable content or your account, subject to copies already received by people you shared with, legal obligations, and routine backup deletion cycles.

We do not use Your Content to train Saul or any AI model we develop or control. When we use third-party AI providers, we configure their services and use them under terms that state Your Content is not used for model training.

4. AI features and their limits

Saul uses third-party AI models to generate answers, quizzes, flashcards, summaries and other output ("AI Output"). AI Output is generated from your materials and the model's general knowledge, and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date.

AI Output is study material, not legal advice. Nothing the Service produces creates an attorney–client relationship, and you should always check against your assigned reading, your professor and your own judgment.

Because AI Output is generated for you, similar output may be generated for other users with similar prompts. Don't rely on AI Output being unique.

5. Sharing

Outlines and notes you share are visible to whoever you shared them with — specific people, your school, or everyone, depending on the option you pick. You can stop sharing at any time, but copies people already made stay with them.

When you share with someone by email who doesn't have a Saul account yet, we send them an email telling them you shared with them, and the share becomes available if they create an account with that address. Don't share with people who haven't agreed to hear from you.

You are responsible for what you share. Sharing content that violates these Terms (for example, someone else's copyrighted material or harassing content) may lead to removal of the share or suspension of your account. Shared content may be reported by other users and reviewed by our team.

6. Plans, credits, billing and cancellation

The Free plan is free. Paid plans (Plus and Elite) are billed monthly or yearly in advance through Stripe. Prices and plan features are shown on the pricing page and may change; we'll tell you before a change affects your renewal.

AI usage is measured in credits. Plans include a monthly credit allowance, and you can buy additional credit top-ups. Credits have no cash value, are not transferable, and unused included credits do not roll over unless we say otherwise. Top-up credits remain available while your account is active.

You can cancel at any time; you keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing period, and the lower plan's usage limits then apply. Downgrading never deletes your work.

Payments are non-refundable except where required by law. If a payment fails, we may retry it and, if it keeps failing, move your account to the Free plan.

Trials and complimentary plans: we may offer free trials or grant complimentary paid access. Unless we say otherwise, a trial converts to the Free plan at the end of the trial period and is not charged. We can end or change a complimentary grant with notice.

7. Discount codes

Discount codes apply as described when they're issued, until their stated end date. Codes can't be combined, exchanged for cash, or applied retroactively. We can deactivate a code that is abused, shared outside its intended audience, or issued in error.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use Saul to break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
  • cheat where your school forbids AI assistance — your school's academic integrity rules are your responsibility, not ours;
  • upload malicious files, or probe, attack or overload our infrastructure;
  • scrape the Service, resell access, or build a competing product from it;
  • share or upload content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, or violates someone's privacy or intellectual property;
  • misrepresent your identity, or create accounts by automated means.

9. Third-party services

Saul relies on third parties such as our hosting provider, AI model providers, Stripe (payments) and Google (optional sign-in). Your use of those features may also be subject to those providers' terms. We're not responsible for third-party services, but we choose them carefully and use them only as described in the Privacy Policy.

10. No legal advice, no guarantees

Saul is a study tool, not a law firm. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI Output will be accurate.

To the maximum extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or grades. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim (or, if you paid nothing, to one hundred US dollars).

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain disclaimers or limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Ending things

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. When you do, your content is removed from active systems and then from backups on our normal backup cycle, and any active paid subscription is cancelled.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, with notice where practicable. If we close your account for a serious violation, we may not offer a refund for the current period.

Sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, liability limits) survive termination.

12. Changes and contact

If we make a material change to these Terms, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Saul after the change takes effect means you accept the new Terms; if you don't, you can delete your account first.

Questions about these Terms? Use the contact form on the FAQ page — it reaches a human.
