Using "Ask Saul" on the home page vs. inside a class

Both boxes talk to the same Saul — the difference is what Saul can see when answering.

Saul appears in two places: the Ask Saul box on your home page, and the Chat tab inside each class. Both work the same way — type a question, optionally attach files, and Saul answers. The difference is what Saul uses as context.

Ask Saul on the home page

  • Starts a general chat that isn't tied to a class.
  • By default Saul answers from general legal knowledge. Use the source controls (the Answering from button) to ground the answer in a specific class, your saved notes and outlines, or materials.
  • You can attach files with the paperclip button. While Saul reads them, the indicator shows Uploaded file(s), and when the document is ready you'll get a pop-up with an option to save it into your Materials.

Chat inside a class

  • Lives on the class's Chat tab, alongside Notes, Materials, Outline, Concept Map, Quiz, Flashcards and Tasks.
  • Saul automatically grounds answers in that class's materials, notes and outlines — pick Entire Class or individual sources in the source controls.
  • Best for course-specific questions, because everything you've uploaded for that class is in reach.

Which should I use?

Studying for a specific course? Chat inside that class so Saul cites your own materials. Quick question that crosses classes, or general legal knowledge? Use the home page box and pick your sources yourself. Every conversation is saved under Chats either way.
