Research mode makes Saul search the internet while answering, then list the web sources it used under the answer. It's available on the Elite plan.
Turning it on
- In Legal Writing, click the Research button in the chat.
- In regular chats — the Chats page or a class's Chat tab — Elite users see a small globe icon in the composer, next to the source controls. Click it to toggle Research mode on; the setting is remembered per conversation.
What happens while it's on
- While Saul works, you'll see rotating "searching the internet" messages instead of the usual thinking text.
- The answer comes back with web citations listed under Sources, so you can open and check each one.
When to use it
Use Research mode for anything time-sensitive — recent decisions, new statutes, current events. For questions about your own course materials, leave it off: Saul is faster and cites your uploads directly. Research mode is off by default in every chat.
