Welcome to Saul. This guide walks you through the three things worth doing in your first session: creating a class, adding material, and asking your first question.
1. Create a class
Saul organizes everything around classes — one per course you're taking. From the app home page, click New class, give it a name (e.g. "Contracts"), and save. Each class gets its own chat, notes, materials, outlines, concept maps, quizzes, and flashcards.
2. Add your materials
Open your new class and go to the Materials tab. Click Upload and add your class notes, slides, outlines, assignment sheets, or other study materials. Saul reads PDF, Word, and plain-text files. Scanned PDFs work too, though they may take a moment longer to process.
3. Ask your first question
Go to the class Chat tab and ask Saul something about your materials — for example, "Summarize the holding in the first case I uploaded" or "Explain promissory estoppel using my class notes." Saul grounds its answers in the materials you've uploaded and shows you the sources it used.
Tips
- The Ask Saul box on the home page is great for quick questions across everything.
- Chat inside a class when you want answers tied to that class's materials.
- You can attach files to any chat with the paperclip button.
