How to upload materials and keep them organized

What file types Saul reads, where uploads go, and how to search and filter a growing library.

Materials are the foundation of everything Saul does — the better your uploads, the better your answers. Here's how to manage them well.

What you can upload

Saul reads PDF, Word (.docx), and plain-text files, and can extract text from photos of papers. Each file can be up to 20 MB. Scanned PDFs are handled automatically.

Where uploads live

Files you upload inside a class stay in that class's Materials tab. Files you upload from the home page chat are saved to your general Materials library, where you can assign them to a class later.

Staying organized

  • Use clear file names — "Contracts Midterm Notes" beats "scan001.pdf".
  • Use the search box at the top of the Materials tab to find files by name.
  • Filter by upload date to find what you just added, or by class when browsing your full library.

Turning uploads into outlines

Word, PDF, and text files can be converted into editable Saul outlines with one click — open the material and choose Make editable.
